This page explains what Tinnitus Clarified ("we," "us") collects when you use this site, why, and what control you have over it. Most visitors are in the United States, and this policy is written with that primary audience in mind, but the site is readable from anywhere and this policy applies to every visitor.
What we collect
The contact form. If you write to us, we store what you send and the email address you give, and use them only to reply. Nothing you send is published.
The tools send us nothing. The hearing tests, the digits-in-noise test, the pitch matcher, the symptom journal, the coping plan and the when-to-seek-care checklist all run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted, and none of it reaches us — there is no account and no server behind them.
Some of them remember, on your device only. So that a saved coping plan or a journal of flare-ups is still there next week, the journal, coping plan, hearing test, digits-in-noise test and pitch matcher store their results in your browser's local storage. That is on your own computer or phone, not ours — we cannot read it, and it does not follow you to another device or browser. Clearing your browser's site data for this site removes all of it; the journal also lets you delete entries individually. The when-to-seek-care checklist and the SOS breathing tool store nothing at all and reset when you leave the page.
Cookies. We use a single first-party cookie to remember your cookie consent choice. If you accept, and once AdSense is active on the site, Google may set its own cookies to serve and measure ads — see the Advertising section below.
Analytics. If enabled, this site may use Plausible Analytics, which is cookieless and doesn't collect personal data, and/or Google Analytics, which does use cookies and only loads after you accept the cookie banner. Analytics data is used in aggregate to understand which content is useful, not to identify individual visitors.
Sound library. Every sound on /sounds is generated in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, downloaded or streamed, there is no account, and what you play is not logged against you.
Advertising
Once enabled, this site uses Google AdSense to show ads. AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can decline ad personalization using the cookie banner shown on your first visit, or directly through Google's own settings at adssettings.google.com. What we don't do
We don't sell personal data. We don't require an account to read articles or play sounds. We don't knowingly collect data from children — this site isn't directed at anyone under 16, consistent with both US COPPA (under 13) and the stricter EU/UK default (under 16).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights over your data — to access it, correct it, delete it, or object to certain uses. In the US this can include rights under state laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA; internationally, GDPR (EU/UK), PIPEDA (Canada), and LGPD (Brazil) are common examples. Rather than listing every regional variation here, our practical approach is the same for everyone: contact us using the email below and we'll act on a reasonable request regardless of which specific law technically applies to you.
