Why this exists
Most tinnitus content online falls into one of two categories: a thin rewrite of a clinic's marketing page, angled toward selling a specific product or appointment, or an unmoderated forum thread where good information sits mixed in with speculation and fear. Tinnitus Clarified was built to be something in between — thorough, plainly written, and honest about what the research does and doesn't actually support, without a product to sell you at the end of it.
Who runs this site
Tinnitus Clarified is an independently run editorial project, not a clinic, a hospital system, or a company with a medical advisory board. We're upfront about that rather than implying otherwise, because it's exactly the kind of thing this site's own editorial standards would flag if another site did it. What we can offer instead is a genuinely rigorous sourcing process — every factual claim traces to a named, checkable source, not to "studies show" with nothing behind it.
How articles are actually sourced and written
Every article on this site cites specific, named sources — peer-reviewed studies, clinical practice guidelines, or recognized health bodies such as the NIDCD, WHO, American Tinnitus Association, or national audiology and otolaryngology associations. We don't cite content-farm blogs, and we don't fabricate statistics or attribute quotes that don't exist. Where evidence is genuinely mixed, preliminary, or contested — and a fair amount of tinnitus research is — the articles say so directly instead of rounding up to false certainty.
Sources are listed at the bottom of every article, linked directly to the original material, so you can check them yourself rather than taking our summary on faith.
How we handle corrections
If a source doesn't actually support a claim, a study got misread, or research has moved on since an article was written, that's a real error worth fixing, not a debate. Tell us specifically which article and what's wrong, and we'll check it against the original source and correct it if the correction is right.
What this site is not
Tinnitus Clarified is an information resource, not a clinic, and nothing here is a diagnosis or a personalized treatment plan for you specifically. General information about a condition can't account for your individual history, other health factors, or medications — a real evaluation from an audiologist or doctor can. If you're dealing with tinnitus that's new, worsening, one-sided, pulsatile, or paired with hearing loss or dizziness, please see a professional rather than relying on this site alone — several articles here explain specifically why that matters.
Advertising and affiliate links
No advertising runs on this site at present. The slots exist and display advertising is the intended funding model, but no ad network is configured and no ad script loads on any page — which is checkable: the HTML contains no ad markup. No article here carries an affiliate link. Not one of the 172 articles earns a commission on anything it mentions, including the ones that name specific products. If that ever changes, the article in question will say so at the top of itself, not in a policy page you would have to go looking for. Advertising presence never determines which topics get covered or what an article concludes about a treatment's effectiveness.
